Ignite "Whatever is the matter ? ", enquired Zita bending down level to comfort me. This is the very first memory of this lifetime. It was accompanied by a momentary sense of overwhelming sadness and was accompanied by sobbing and hot tears. The emotion experienced during this pivotal event, appears to have had no obvious cause or trigger.

I would be about 18 months old. I was standing wearing a beige coloured coat with a royal blue collar and enamelled patterned buttons. It was a cool, grey November morning under a large beech tree, in the beautiful old Roman City of Lancaster, near Canon Hill. The location was just 200 metres from the nursing home in which I was born. Close to Zita, her coat was a deep olive green, contrasting with her striking auburn, wavy hair and pale green eyes. Zita's attention was immediately comforting and reassuring.

To distract me from my temporary emotional discomfort, Zita lifted a handful of beech nuts from the pavement for me to see. Their prickly green nut cases and inner copper-coloured seeds mirrored Zita's striking autumnal colours. There are many photographs and some movie footage of Zita and me before this event but I have no recollection of this earlier period. Alpha watched impassively and without judgement, perhaps a metre away. This recollection has remained as vivid, as the day it happened. This 3D audio visual memory can be summoned at will with clarity and mysteriously, from different perspectives ie from my senses looking up at Zita and also from Alpha's viewpoint observing the scene as a detached bystander. Who or what is Alpha ? A metaphysical witness ? This question is the purpose of this enquiry.
